| A little bit of Pokey tunnel history in one spot with the 2 Tunnel 7's. 18M hustles east with it's loads out of the "new" 1926 Tunnel 7. To its right is the original 1905 tunnel abandoned since 1954 when double track through the area ended. The tracks from the old tunnel curved the opposite direction and took a shortcut though the mountain via the now abandoned Tunnel 6. Someone at NW must've had a vision of doublestacks back in the day since the new tunnel is already high enough to clear them without any modification. Even the old one would probably have no problem its so high. |
