| 40 years ago this week the Southern region of British Railways ceased operation of mainline steam power. The last few weeks saw some fantastic running with quite a few trains achieving 100MPH. On 10th July the Bluebell Railway celebrated that anniversary with a number special trains. here we see Driver Ian 'Fix It' Wright urging his locomotive up the 1:75 gradient, there's 190psi at the front end and the fire is white hot, 40 years ago, seems like only yesterday! |
