Remarks & Notes

The Penn-Central years were bleak years in many ways, from the appearance of locomotives to the state of decline that so epitomized the plight of northeastern railroading in that time. Nevertheless, the old PRR Middle Division was still a heavy freight artery and maintained as well as anyplace on the already beleaguered poster child for merger gone wrong. On a warm June morning CG-2 comes hustling through the restricted curve east of Mifflin with a Chicago to Greenville redball led by an SD40, U28C, U33C combination with a nice cut of Frisco boxcars first out.
