Tennessee Alabama & Georgia Railway number 80 was the first high-hood GP38 built by EMD, completed in February 1968. After the "TAG" was acquired by Southern Railway, No. 80 became SOU 2879 and later Norfolk Southern 2879. Upon retirement, it was acquired by the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum in Chattanooga. During 2015, NS performed extensive mechanical work at Juniata Locomotive Shop in Altoona, PA, to restore the relic to operating condition. After it returned to Chattanooga in 2016, it was painted at TVRM's Soule Shops into its 1968 "TAG" scheme, and is now part of the operational fleet at the museum.
