Everett 2-6-2 #11Made a bloody run to Everett, Pennsylvania to see Everett Railroad's 2-6-2 #11. Wait, what?!? Everett #11 is a 2-6-0, you say? And there is no railroad in Everett, PA? Well, yes and no...
There was a railroad in Everett, PA known as the Everett Railroad which was established in 1954 It ran on 4 miles of former Huntingdon & Broad Top Mountain Railroad between Tatesville and Mt Dallas, PA. The locomotive captured above was built by Baldwin in 1909 for the Kanawa, Glen Jean & Eastern RR (McKell Coal & Coke Co.) in WV. It was later purchased by the Morehead & North Fork Railroad Co., in KY before being sold to a dealer (George Silcott). Everett purchased the locomotive for excursion service in 1965. Unfortunately, the line ceased operations in 1982 when Conrail abandoned a connecting portion of the line. The engine then went to Williams Grove. Everett's line was then sold, scrapped and divested with proceeds going towards the formation of the "new" Everett Railroad which now operates further north, with steam operations based out of Hollidaysburg, PA.
Everett 2-6-2 #11 was purchased in 1997 and placed on display by the relocated Everett depot. The organization responsible for repatriating the locomotive is the Bloody Run Historical Society named after the Everett's original name. Back up north, the "new" Everett Railroad purchased
Alco built 2-6-0 #11 in 2006 from the Middletown and New Jersey Railroad for excursion service with the first runs occurring in the Fall of 2015. The Mogul is former "Rail City" Museum, nee; Bath & Hammondsport Railroadnee Narragansett Pier Railroad; original; Narragansett Pier Railroad. Whew! Now you know!
In the near future, Everett Railroad expects to have a second operational steam locomotive in service, an engine native parts of the "new" Everett Railroad's ROW, that being the 1927 Baldwin built 2-8-0 #38, former (wait for it....) Huntingdon & Broad Top Mountain!
