Cedar Rapids & Iowa City slug No. 302, mated to slug mother locomotive No. 202 switches at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on April 11, 2016. These are new products custom-built by Relco in Albia, Iowa. Slug No. 302 is designated a S4-143 (S=slug, 4=four axles, 143=ballasted weight in tons), while slug mother locomotive No. 202 is designated a L4-1500XD-M (L=locomotive, 4=four axles, 1500=1,500 h.p., XD=extreme duty, M=mother). A new paint scheme on these cutting-edge machines is an interesting combination of deep gold very similar to Rio Grande’s Aspen gold, with Soo Line-like red ends, over a light gray underframe.
Not
just heritage schemes, not just commemorative schemes - this album is devoted to some of the world's most interesting paint schemes, past or present.
