The Old Road
Norfolk Southern local freight H-02 travels west past the abandoned station facilities at Port Murray, constructed in 1909. Once a thriving center of commerce for both the Morris Canal and the Lackawanna Railroad, Port Murray is now host to only a few residences. The rail line is now the Norfolk Southern Washington Secondary, but was the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Main Line from 1856 to 1911. Upon the opening of the Lackawanna Cutoff in 1911 which bypassed lower Warren County, this line became known as "The Old Road." Today, the Old Road only sees a 10mph local freight three times per week while the Lackawanna Cutoff is abandoned. The caboose to the left is of Erie Lackawanna heritage, but is painted for the Erie Railroad and numbered C178.
