After setting out some empty grain hoppers, Burlington Northern's St. Francis local departs Danbury, Nebraska, late in the afternoon on a September 1991 day. The train is powered by a trio of GP39Ms of mixed heritage: BN 2826 (originally CB&Q GP30 955), 2802 (built as UP GP30 840) and 2816 (originally GN GP30 3000). The train is heading to Saint Francis, Kansas, where it will tie up for the evening, returning the next day to pick up loaded cars and haul them back to Holdrege, Nebraska, where they will be interchanged to a train on BN's Hastings Subdivision to be transported to markets around the country.
