On top of the twisting curves needed to maintain a reasonable gradient leaving the floor of the Caliente Valley, Southern Pacific Civil Engineer William Hood's forces holed two tunnels through the rolling Tehachapi Hills before reaching Allard. Today those two tunnels, numbers 1 and 2 (right to left), still stand however the station of Allard has been lost to the pages of history. Linked with the original siding at Bealville, Allard is now a portion of the 13,270' Bealville siding that we see today. The head end of the Q STOCHI has just emerged from tunnel 2 at the bottom end of Bealville while the train's rear DPUs are shoving hard up the top leg of the Caliente horseshoe, short of entering tunnel 1.
