Remarks & Notes 
The serpentine curves which William Hood utilized in order to take the Southern Pacific Railroad out of the Caliente Valley and up the Tehachapi range, ultimately to link northern and southern California, are evident as westbound 'empty Eugenes' slip down grade. On top of the many twisting curves, two tunnels (numbers 1 and 2), also separate Caliente and Bealville (formerly Allard).
