Remarks & Notes
Fireman’s view from eastbound flagship Train 20, "The Chief," as it meets westbound Train 23, "The Grand Canyon," climbing the Colorado side of Raton Pass near Gallinas on May 10, 1967. Raton Pass is the highest point on the AT&SF at 7,588-ft. Workhorse "Grand Canyon” survived “The Chief” by three years, lasting until the advent of Amtrak.
