C40-8W Rolls By P&LE Heritage in Glassport
One of the more interesting things found in the Borough of Glassport is the old P&LE Depot, used by railroad crews as a resting stop before boarding their train the next morning. Unfortunately, the building's shape has deteriorated. Unhelpful to it's demise is the actions of local delinquents, further demolishing the outside and inside as well.
Even though it is in rough shape, it's always interesting to see trains fly by here. For many it's a familiar sight on their trip, but it really makes me stop to wonder how it was back in the day.
Regardless, this C40-8W has no time to stop for a rest, as the crew hauls empties eastbound down the Mon Subdivision.
With the new crossover, I always enjoy making way down to the 7th Street crossing, as you have three wonderful things; The straightaway, the crossover, and most importantly - the station.
