Admittedly bias towards the coalfields of the Chesapeake & Ohio, the Louisville & Nashville KD Subdivision gave the C&O a good run for its money in terms of tedious mountain grades, rural landscapes, and old signals on this dreary February morning. Here, a unit coal train passes the L&N searchlight signals at Habersham southbound on the mainline to Etowah, Tenn., from Corbin, Ky. With the Morley light helper on the rear, the southbound train tackles wet rail and thick fog on its trip down the old L&N to Knoxville and points south.
