On June 27, 1965 nothing along Colorado’s Joint Line is as it should be. Ten days after massive floods shut down almost all rail traffic into and out of Denver, trains are just starting to move again, though hesitantly and on track that is freshly patched together. Missouri Pacific has been terminating St. Louis-Denver Train 11-12, the Colorado Eagle, in Pueblo, but today full Denver service – of a sort -- is being restored, as a very dusty E8A 31 makes its way south past Palmer Lake with a stub train consisting of a Rio Grande baggage car and coach. The 31 is a onetime Texas & Pacific unit.
