Having finished serving customers in the Santa Clarita Valley, Union Pacific's Saugus Local hurries through San Fernando on their way back to Gemco yard. Originally Southern Pacific's 'Saugus line' (which was a portion of SP's original northern- southern California link, completed in 1876) today the route is owned by Metrolink and hosts several commuter trains daily between Lancaster and Los Angeles. Recalling its espee heritage, power on today's Saugus includes GP40-2 1403 (ex-SSW 7648) and 1394 (ex-SSW 7638). Completing the train is former SP C-50-7 class bay window caboose #4612, now used as the Saugus' shoving platform.
