Remarks & Notes
Schöllenen gorge between Göschenen and Andermatt in the real winter. Cogwheel train of the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn (MGB) with railcar Deh 4/4 # 53 "Urseren" from 1972 is crossing the Brüggwald viaduct. The 4 kilometer long 1 meter gauge line between Göschenen and Andermatt was built in 1917 as independent "Schöllenenbahn" (Schöllenen Railway) with up to 17.9 % grade and electrified with 1200 V DC. The old "Teufelsbrücke" (devil's bridge) is from 1830, replacing one from 1595. The first wooden bridge was built here around 1200, according the legend by the devil. In the foreground the contemporary road bridge from 1956 in concrete, faced with natural stones.
