The Norwalk River Railroad Bridge, better known as "Walk bridge" was constructed in 1896 for the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad. It is one of five moveable bridges on Metro-North's territory and has the reputation of being the railroad's arch nemesis. Within the last few years, when Walk bridge opens for scheduled maritime traffic or test openings, more often than not the bridge is stuck open and chaos erupts with delays to Metro-North and Amtrak.
Recently, the plan and funding to replace this historic bridge has been approved by the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CDOT) much to the opposition of the surrounding public in South Norwalk. In the coming years, there will be many changes to the water front and photos such as this will become a past time.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
