In May 1993, KCS had taken over, but there were still lots of MidSouth units around, with solid sets still fairly common. It appeared that perhaps there was some effort - at least in the early days after the takeover - to avoid mixing dissimilar types, so Meridian-Shreveport trains in pre-Raceway days often had all MidSouth Paducahs, or all GP40s. The intermodal flood had not begun, and C-C power had not yet taken over.
