Remarks & Notes
Two years ago Missouri Pacific asked the ICC for permission to drop number 16, the Missouri River Eagle. But on April 26, 1965, the train known to local railroaders as the “Bird,” is still flying, just minutes out of Kansas City Union Station near Van Brundt Avenue on its way to St. Louis. In command, E8A 35 is owned by subsidiary a Texas & Pacific. Placed in Omaha-Kansas City-St. Louis service in pre-war 1940, the Eagle was MP’s first streamliner and, absent the Omaha segment, will survive until 1971, when Amtrak will extend the run to New York.
