Contributing smoke to the early-morning haze, U33B 3301 leads a five-car Reading & Northern train as it approaches the 3500-foot Mahanoy Tunnel through Vulcan Hill. In the foreground are structures from an elaborate ventilation system built to clear the smoke from the tunnel during the steam era. Today the no-longer-needed system remains derelict.
