Remarks & Notes
18-376 with a load of containers is climbing up and away from Frere towards Chieveley. This is a lovely section of the Natal Main Line with a lot of the mastpoles / catenary (as pictured here) from the original installation when the line was first electrified in 1926. The area is also steeped in history associated with the Anglo Boer War (1899 - 1902). A young Winston Churchill, while working as a war correspondent, was captured by the boers, after the train he was on was ambushed on the 15th November 1899, about 750m down the line from where this train has just come from.
