Conrail is just over 2 months old as two Gs in Penn Central paint lead a southbound freight toward Baltimore and perhaps Potomac Yard, Virginia. Lead engine No. 4849 was built by PRR/GE in May, 1935, over 41 years prior to this photo's date. Aberdeen was a great place to watch trains back then, with the station platforms being near the 4-lane Bel Air Avenue grade crossing. The warning bells at the crossing would give you 30-60 seconds advance warning that a train was coming, and time to look up from the book or newspaper that you were reading and get your camera ready.
