| As his helper watches and shields his eyes from the bright flame, a welder repairs the switch points on the west switch of East Portal siding in front of the imposing edifice of the Moffat Tunnel. Yes, it is May 4th, 2001—and this is what springtime in Colorado’s mountains sometimes looks like! |
