Remarks & Notes
The times they are a changing......to the loss of Railfans in Denver. The UP recently announced that it will be closing the iconic Burnham Yard Shops in February and will also scale back operations at the North Yard. The maintenance, repairs and overhauls of locomotives will shift to Union Pacific sites in North Platte and South Morrill, Nebraska, and North Little Rock, Arkansas. The Union Pacific employs 300 people at Burnham and the North Yard Shops. About 90 workers will be kept on at the North Yard. Here we see maintenance being done on UP 9178 (C40-8), a scene likely to repeat itself for the other engines in the 'Dead Line' in preparation for the move. Looks like we have only a few more months to photograph these two UP iconic locations in Denver.

These are engines that are either already scrapped, are in deadlines, or they're in severe danger of being scrapped. Not everything can be preserved.
