Remarks & Notes
Railroaders clear snow after a big storm at Cliff, Colorado, on March 21, 2003. Rio Grande spreader AX-41 has just plowed snow up to the rear of a westbound coal empty that was cut for the Highway 72 grade crossing at Pinecliffe when the train tied up here in the middle of the storm. This Union Pacific front end loader is being used to clear the siding of snow between the cut train and grade crossing, and is now headed down the main line to remove snow between the spreader and rear of the coal train. A major blizzard hit much of Colorado on March 17-20, 2003. Denver received 31.8 inches, while Coal Creek Canyon got 71.8 inches and Rollinsville 87.5. With Pinecliffe located between the two, it received a whopping 6 to 7 feet of heavy, wet snow!
