Remarks & Notes
We can see the correct grounding of the catenary here. After the power (here 15 kV 16,7 Hz AC) is switched off and secured against being switched on again, first the absence of voltage is checked with the test bar (right), there must be an intermittent sound to be audible. Then, the two terminals of the earthing bar are secured to the two rails and then the yellow rod (fiberglass, with a copper cable) is suspended at the top of the catenary. Protective gear including helmet with visor, special gloves, jacket, pants and shoes must be worn. The overhead wire was grounded for work on the pantographs of the ICE-S test train near the new Gotthard Base Tunnel (GBT).
