The mighty 'General' P36 0120 passes under a bridge at Maryina Rosha as a track maintenance gang watches. This particular 4-8-4 was built in 1955 at Kolomna Locomotive Works and was retired in 1974. It stood on a pedestal near Moscow's Belorusskiy Station from 1983 until 2013 when it underwent a full restoration. Since 2014 it has been pulling 'retro-trains' from Moscow to nearby towns almost every weekend. Of the 251 P36 Series locomotives built, 26 have survived in various states of repair. Of these, six are in working condition. Steam railway preservation is alive and well in Russia.
