Remarks & Notes 
The Norfolk and Western acquired the bankrupt Atlantic and Danville in 1962 and renamed it Norfolk, Franklin and Danville. For a long time the NFD operated with two former Atlantic and Danville RS36s (#1-#2) and four former N&W/Nickel Plate RS11s (#201-#204). By 1980, RS36 #2 was all that was left of the Alcos and was augmented with N&W locomotives. Here are N&W GP9 #655 and NFD RS36 #2 on a freight near Suffolk, Virginia.
