Conrail hosted an excursion for the Lexington Group, Inc. as part of their annual meeting which was held this year in Newark, NJ. The train was led by Bennett Levin's beautifully restored Pennsylvania Railroad E8s 5711 and 5809. The excursion toured a large part of Conrail's North Jersey Shared Assets operation. The train is seen crossing the Garden State Secondary at CP Ron. It has just arrived here from the south on the GSS and, after reversing into the yard, is heading west to Port Reading Junction (Manville) on the Port Reading Secondary. Just out of sight to the north is Conrail OI-16 with "Erie Lackawanna" 1700 leading. It would have been interesting to see the PRR and EL units together, but it was not to be!
