Remarks & Notes
Conrail hosted an excursion for the Lexington Group, Inc. as part of their annual meeting which was held this year in Newark, NJ. The train was led by Bennett Levin's beautifully restored Pennsylvania Railroad E8s 5711 and 5809. The excursion toured a large part of Conrail's North Jersey Shared Assets operation. One of the more appropriate locations to shoot a pair of PRR E8s was the former Camden & Amboy Branch of the PRR (now Conrail's Amboy Secondary). This line is historic for other reasons, as the C&A was the first railroad chartered in Jersey (February, 1830). The complex of brick buildings in the background were part of the Helme Snuff Mill, a long time fixture at this location. Thankfully the buildings seen here survive today and are being recondition as luxury apartment complex.
