Remarks & Notes
After spending nearly two years in storage at Macaulay, a six car Hitachi set runs into Southern Cross station to reverse direction, before heading to Newport Workshops for eventual sale or scrapping. This was the last of three such transfers, and could possibly be the last ever movement of a Hitachi set on the mainline under its own power. A set has been put aside for preservation, however the future of heritage electric train operation in Melbourne remains unclear, with no tours having been operated since 2004.
