Remarks & Notes
With the shadows growing long on October 20, 2001, two Norfolk Southern locomotives push a "Hill Run" over the curved steel trestle at Garwood, West Virginia, on the 2.07 percent grade to Clarks Gap. This is the second cut of a loaded coal train that came off the Guyandotte River line that morning. On October 1, 2015, NS mothballed this part of the former Virginian Railway between Mullens and Princeton, and all remaining traffic now takes the long way around via the Guyandotte River, Wharncliffe, and the former N&W main line.
