Remarks & Notes
On a somewhat rare occurrence, the DL's Portland Turn ran all the way into Portland to interchange with NS instead of their usual location of Slateford. With the interchange work completed, the train heads back to familiar turf, passing underneath the Lackawanna Cut-Off. Built between 1908 and 1911, the Lackawanna Cut-Off diverted from the main at Slateford and crossed over the old main at this location. The new connection provided the Lackawanna with a faster line into the New York market. The line was used into the Conrail era before being abandoned. Today, only the original DLWR main line (below) survives.

Landscape photography is difficult due to the challenge of combining good light and good scenery. Good railroad photography enters another level of complexity since it requires the first two while there is a train in view.
