Remarks & Notes
Three EMDs, including a freshly shopped SD40R, help lift a heavy eastbound up the stiff grade in the canyon. The train is moving away from us along the contours of the canyon to gain elevation. San Timoteo Canyon is part of the western slope of Beaumont Hill, one of California's toughest railroad grades, and one of several in southern California's deserts.
