Remarks & Notes
Drifting downgrade with a minimum set of train line air and the curvature of the track doing the rest, MRL's Missoula to Laurel freight descends Mullen Pass in the wonderful Rocky Mountains on a fine summer morning. Catching an operable SD45 these days is a rare treat indeed and plying the rails of a heavily used, scenic through route even more so. Thanks to a few unexpected failures of MRL's fleet of SD70ace's recently, the railroad reactivated SD45 382 to help move tonnage while the Ace's are being repaired. Surely I don't mind as seeing a clean, well maintained flared radiator second generation EMD leading a freight is a mighty fine sight to behold.

The EMD SD (special duty) series are a strong and reliable kind of locomotive which still serve America's rails today. They have proved themselves reliable by clocking in several million miles of freight service over several decades.
