Remarks & Notes

A major blizzard closed transportation through much of Colorado on March 17-20, 2003. Denver received 31.8 inches, while Coal Creek Canyon got 71.8 inches and Rollinsville 87.5. With Pinecliffe located between the two, it received a whopping 6 to 7 feet of snow! And it was the heavy and wet spring stuff too. This westbound coal train found it tough heading west during the storm and was tied down in Cliff siding for the duration. The main line on the left was plowed the day before on March 20. On this day, snow removal equipment like a front-end loader and Jordan spreader will soon be used to put the train back together (cut for Highway 72 grade crossing) for the continued trip west.
