A series of June thunderstorms wrecked havoc on CSX's southern coalfields of Logan county, leaving signals crushes and much of the mainline impassable until waters receded. Here, before the signals would be turned off and indefinitely 'dark', the unique C&O-style ABS signals at Rum Jct. display stop indications. These small 12' signals are some of the oldest (and last) of their kind on the entire system. Also note the relay cabin equipped with a phone link to the railroad's HE Dispatcher in Huntington, W.Va.
