Remarks & Notes
The D&H Penn Division detour helper crew backs their power toward a waiting train at the west end of East Binghamton Yard. After all connections are made, the road crew at the other end of the train will pull the train west until the helpers are clear of BD interlocking. The helpers will then lead the train east on Conrail's ex-Erie main line to Lanesboro, PA, and then over the "Jeff Connection" interchange track to the D&H Penn Division at Jefferson Junction. After the train is clear of Jefferson Junction, the helpers will be uncoupled, and the train will proceed to over the Penn Division to Oneonta and points beyond. This "worlds longest switchback" operation will continue until the Belden Hill tunnel clearance project is complete, after which the Penn Division will be ripped up.
