TVRM's Southern Railway 2-8-2 #4501 and NS SD40 #3170 lead the first of the weekend's Norfolk Southern 21st Century Steam Program passenger excursions "The Radford Rambler" by the former "Class A" Norfolk & Western passenger station in Abingdon, Virginia. Built in 1912, recent roof renovations to return the station to steam-rail-era appearance included use of slate, copper trim, ridgelines, dormers and skylights. Currently home to the Historical Society of Washington County, the depot renovation grants and on-going renovations allow for future use as a passenger station should passenger rail service return to the area.
