Remarks & Notes

The rural nature of the Sandhills Sub was transformed with the advent of coal traffic - first with CTC and then extensive double-tracking such as was underway between Mullen and Whitman, NE in the summer of 1998. BN 5508 East leads a consist with a poignant reminder of the merger that never was.
