When gazing down into BNSF Railway's massive Galesburg Classification Yard, especially at night, phrases like "The Railroad Never Sleeps" can't help but to pop into one's mind as the never ending movement of trains continues to take place here. Tonight, just like many nights before, is no exception as the railyard continues on with its 24-hr, non-stop work day. Looking down from atop the County Highway 10 overpass, BNSF 1848 awaits its next assignment at the trim tower while in the foreground, a switch job streaks past as it pulls a cut of cars out from the hump bowl. Meanwhile, off in the background, several mainline freights patiently wait their turn to head out of town via the Quincy Main. The railroad is an operation that has always fascinated me and is an operation that will continue to fascinate me till the day I meet my demise.
