Remarks & Notes
Mississippi Eastern Railway Company 4-6-0 #303

This handsome ten wheeler was built by Alco in 1916 for the Mississippi Eastern as their #303. It was sold in 1934 to the Lancaster & Chester Railway as their #32. As #32 the engine found itself in 4 years time spending several years working side by side with 1940 built 2-8-0 #40. Recall, L&C #40 is one and the same, #40 from the New Hope & Ivyland Railroad fame - imagine that! In 1946 #303 (then #32) was sold to the Hampton & Branchville Railroad Co., remaining with the same number (32). In 1963 it was sold to Byron Andrews in York, PA as York Southern #1. No. 303 escaped the scrap yards of Levean and Sons, where it had sat since 1958 when Richard Jensen purchased the engine (imagine that, again!). It was transferred to William Latham in 1986 and was eventually donated to the Museum in 2000.
