While most of us have been to a carnival at some point in our lives, the carnival itself had likely traveled by road to get to the event. The James E. Strates carnival is the last carnival to travel by rails making it a highly sought after train when it comes to town.
This year the carnival train came to New York State in early May and experienced some troubles along the way as one of the trucks on the train had literally split in two. After CSX handed the train off to NS at Croxton, NS H55 worked to set out the car which had this truck on it. After this was complete H55 began their trek up the ex-Erie Southern Tier with home road power and visitor from the North supplying power on the carnival train. In this scene the train is paralleling Route 17 in Sloatsburg, NY on its way to Middletown, NY where the train will spend the majority of the summer.
