A brilliant summer morning finds the Craig local winding up Oak Creek Canyon as it begins its trek to the lonely outpost of Craig, CO. Back in 2011 I had a keen interest in the former Rio Grande coal lines. Although the Craig Branch was a shadow of its former self, with trains rarely operating beyond Adams, I made the long overnight trek to catch the Craig local, the only train that made it to Craig in a typical week.
