Remarks & Notes |
An American Pacific in France. The Paris à Orléans Railway Company (PO) was the first to experiment with the 231 wheel arrangement in 1907 and was the first railroad in Europe to employ this wheel configuration. One of the original locomotives (the PO #4546) is preserved at the Cité du Train in Mulhouse, France. Of further interest is that the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) in Schenectadi has built these Pacific's. These locomotives have been withdrawn from active service after 1944. |
