Remarks & Notes
Throughout the early 1960s, a railfan could count on finding one of Rio Grande’s five Alco RS-3’s on the Sedalia local, south out of Denver. Here on February 26, 1964 the 5202 passes South Denver with 20 cars for the dynamite plant at Louviers and other line-side industries. By 1964 the RS-3’s are still worth a picture or two Not only are they nearing the end –- all will be off the roster in two years – but five of them, including 5202, still bear the as-delivered multi-stripe paint scheme, by now a rarity on D&RGW units.
