Remarks & Notes
A sight to behold in North Creek, NY. North Creek locals, many of whom had never seen a live steam locomotive, take an opportunity to marvel at the sight of one of the prettiest ones in existence. David Kloke's Leviathan 63 visited the Saratoga & North Creek Railway for one weekend in September of 2013, pulling a series of special excursions and really turning heads as it passed through the small towns and hamlets between North Creek and Corinth.

Completed in 2009, and hand-built by David Kloke and friends, the Leviathan 63 is largely a copy of the Central Pacific #60 "Jupiter" replica, at the Golden Spike National Historic Site. The original Jupiter, which was present at the last spike ceremony at Promontory Summit, was built in September 1868 by the Schenectady Locomotive Works for the Central Pacific Railroad. She had 3 identical sisters, named the Storm, Whirlwind, and Leviathan. When David Kloke constructed his replica engine, it was only natural that she be named for one of Jupiter's less well-known siblings.

The scenic Adirondack and Catskill Mountains offer wonderful views, but political forces have made it difficult for railroads to stay in business.
