Little train, big trestle: On December 16, 1986, the Susquehanna ran a one-car inspection train to see the new routing for their trains. This new route would allow the Susie-Q to avoid the traffic congestion on the former Erie Graham line. The project involved upgrading most of the original NYS&W main between Little Ferry and Sparta Junction, as well as restoring the abandoned ex-L&HR main line from Sparta Junction to Maybrook. The Susquehanna had recently purchased two F45's, the likes of which had not previously been seen on an eastern railroad. NYS&W 3638's paint was completed just hours before the inspection trip, and the lettering could not be applied in time for its first run. The trip routing was Little Ferry - Sparta Junction on the NYS&W, Sparta Junction - Maybrook on the former L&HR, a reverse move from Maybrook - Campbell Hall, and return to Little Ferry via the Graham Line. Here the train crosses Moodna viaduct on its return to Little Ferry.
