Remarks & Notes
An early morning V&T freight led by former McCloud River #18 leads a freight north climbing the grade over a fill at the east end of Overman Pit en route to Virginia City. This massive, open-pit mine came into existence after the original V&T was abandoned and presented a major obstacle in the rebuilding the V&T ROW. The Consolidated Chollar Gould & Savage Mining Co. was the entity that worked the Overman open-pit mine throughout 1948 treating 147,210 tons of gold-silver ore (containing 8,938 ounces of gold and 146,647 ounces of silver) in the company 500-ton cyanide plant. The massive pit was filled in 2005, requiring 300,000 cubic yards of earth and stone to bridge the gap.
