By December, 1964, Santa Fe’s 53 Alco RSD5s are running out their final miles in Colorado and New Mexico freight service, assigned to locals and the occasional helper turn over Raton Pass. A few will be rebuilt into unpowered “drones,” but the 2130 in six months will go to EMD in trade on a new GP35.
